About the Boys

Warren Senyk – Lead Vocals, Harmonica, and Percussion:

Also known as Papa Z, Warren came to Phoenix, Arizona the summer of 1989 from Winnipeg, Canada, home to legendary groups, Bachman Turner Overdrive, The Guess Who and Neil Young. He had just ended a critically acclaimed, 6-month tour with the group, “Thee Outpatients” whose members’ included former “Guess Who” guitarist Bobby Bilan. Most recently, during the summer of '09, while back home in Canada for a visit, Warren shared the stage and jammed with Chicago blues/rock legend, Buddy Guy.
Warrens' soulful vocals coupled with his interpretive blues/rock harp styling, gives an edgy quality to the Scatfish eclectic repertoire. Warren has also teamed with Bob 'Tone' Tencer and are the blues duo, "2 Fifth's of Blues"

Bobby Tencer – Lead Guitar, Vocals:

Also affectionately nick named 'Tone', Bob came to Phoenix in 1979 and has been a member of various musical enterprises ranging from Southern Rock & Blues to Gypsy Jazz. His musical influences are wide ranging including Tom Waits, Jimi Hendrix, Django Reinhardt, the band Little Feat, Robben Ford, Phil Keaggy, Jim Hall, and Carlos Santana.
While on stage with Scatfish, Bob's guitar styling favors a more "blues with an edge" and R'n'B emphasis, which perfectly complements the bands very danceable rhythmic endeavors.
Teamed up with Papa Z, the 'blues kinda ooze' from his guitar when "2 Fifth's of Blues" does the duo they do so well!

Robert RuffennachBass Guitar, Vocals:

Robert, Rufus Grooves, began his bass career during high school as a transition from rhythm guitar, for the highly regarded Smoky Hill Jazz Band. During his tenure there, he played numerous jazz festivals (including University of Northern Colorado, Colorado University, and UC San Diego) and concerts throughout Colorado. He has played for local television and invited to play Disneyland. Stretching into rock and roll led him to join up with Warren S., and later on Bob T. They played the Tempe scene where they led the creative force for local bands, “Some Assembly Required”, “Ego Alien”, and “Not Quite Norman”. Getting back together to create “Scatfish,” the band is stretching their concepts and redefining R’n’B to what they call,’ Blythm and Rues ‘® .

Ken Curry
Drums, Percussion, Vocals:

Straight out of South Chicago, Kenny got his start playing behind a high energy Gospel Choir, then toured with the University of Wisconsin Gospel Choir, while playing with several funk bands in the clubs of Madison, Wisc. He moved to Phoenix in 1984 and started playing jazz-funk with the band Touchstone, until being recruited by “2 Below”, a hard hitting alternative funk band based in Austin Texas. Returning to Phoenix 2 years later, he joined the local R&B/Jazz band “Release”. Kenny can be heard on several CD’s, including Molly Mullen, 2 Below, Paris Simmons, Paradise Baptist Church, and the University of Wisconsin Gospel Choir. Kenny’s style is a blend of groove-oriented R&B, and driving backbeat based rhythms of gospel.

Greg Balas- Tenor, Alto, and Soprano Saxes, Flute

Greg is our newest member and a very welcome addition indeed. Originally from the Pittsburgh area, Greg has been playing around town in various smooth jazz, straight ahead, and R & B ensembles. Greg adds that extra dimension of funk, soul, and class to the Scatfish sound that only horns can provide.
